Lawn Care Services
Crabgrass Control
We apply Cavalcade® herbicide from mid-March through
late-April to prevent crabgrass and many other annual weeds.
Crabgrass grows from the seeds of the previous season’s plant. We
can prevent these seeds from germination with this treatment.
Weed Control
We apply weed control in mid spring (May to mid June)
and fall (mid September thru late
October).
We treat to eliminate broadleaf weeds when they are
actively growing. Examples of broadleaf weeds are dandelion,
clover, plantain, ground ivy, wild violet and over 100 other
weeds. Some weeds such as ground ivy and violet are very
difficult to control and may take repeat applications.
We are constantly evaluating our weed control products to
maximize control of these difficult weeds. Customers signed for
our Gold Standard and Platinum programs, receive spot weed
control with our summer applications as needed.

Fertilizer
We use balanced, dry granular fertilizers to feed your
lawn. We choose fertilizers for the specific application, time of
year, and growing conditions. Our premium slow release fertilizers
will not cause excessive growth of your lawn, reducing the amount of
grass clippings and extending the feeding time up to 6 weeks.
Lawn Insect Control
We can apply insect control throughout
the season depending on the insect pest causing damage. Without
warning, insects can cause a great deal of damage to your lawn.
Mattingly-Lawn Care can treat your lawn for a wide range of surface
and root feeding insects. Examples of such insects are white grubs,
lawn moths, sod webworm, chinch bugs, bluegrass billbugs (adult and
larvae), armyworms, etc.
Note:
Certain lawns have a special problem with white grubs. Mattingly
Lawn Care can apply a preventive grub control treatment in July that
will protect your lawn for the entire summer and into late fall.
See grub worm control.
Grub worm control
Mattingly Lawn Care applies both preventive and
curative grub control treatments. We use Mallet® insecticides to
prevent damaging grub worms from invading your lawn. Mallet is a
very effective insecticide at very low concentrations. This lowers
the amount of pesticides being spread over your lawn while achieving
over 90% control of grub worms! This application is made when the
summer application is applied. There is an additional charge for
this application.

Curative [rescue treatment].
We use Dylox 6.2G for
control of white grubs once they’ve been discovered in your lawn. We
begin to see grub worm damage starting approximately mid-August,
although this can be delayed by dry growing conditions. Often, grub
worms aren’t discovered until there has been significant damage. At
this time Mattingly Lawn Care can apply Dylox to stop feeding and
begin the recovery process. Some lawns may need
over-seeded
or renovated
(see below).
Disease Control
Mattingly Lawn Care can apply fungicides to help
control diseases that occur in your lawn. Lawn diseases occur for
many reasons and some lawns are more susceptible to disease than
others. Some factors that influence disease presence include: soil
type, thatch, watering practices, species of grass, and mowing and
watering practices. Treating disease preventively is most cost
effective but knowing when to treat can become very difficult
because of quickly changing weather conditions that prompt disease
outbreak. If you have a disease problem, we will look at your lawn
and identify the problem and which treatment is recommended. Some
disease problems are difficult to treat because symptoms show up
after the fungus has already damaged the lawn. Examples of some
common diseases are red thread, dollar spot, and the ‘patch’
diseases.
Over-Seeding
Over-seeding introduces and develops new plants and thickens
existing lawns. Mattingly Lawn Care uses only the very best grass
seed selected for lawns in central Indiana. We can select the
perfect grass seed for the intended look and use of your lawn. The
best results are achieved when performed immediately after core
aerating the lawn.
Slice Seeding
Slice seeding is a method of seedbed preparation that uses a slice
seeding machine to cut the seed into tiny grooves in the soil. The
slice seeder, with its fixed blades, works the seed into the top ¼
to ½ inch of soil. Slice seeding works well to fill in a thin lawn
or start a new lawn from scratch.
Lawn Renovation
Renovation describes corrective procedure to restore beauty to an
old lawn without removing all of the sod. It can be as simple as
over-seeding a thin turf area or can include power raking and core
aeration if thatch is greater than ½ inch or the soil is compacted.
Our lawn renovation approach is very aggressive and can make an
average lawn look absolutely amazing! We had some outstanding
results from lawn renovation jobs we completed just last fall—after
the dry summer severely damaged lawns in central Indiana.

Soil Testing
We use soil testing to determine the pH of the soil and the levels
of the primary nutrients available for turf grass to use. We take
numerous samples of soil throughout your lawn and send them to a
professional soil testing lab. The results are analyzed according
the grass type and use of your lawn. Sample testing usually
takes less two weeks. After receiving the results, we can customize
a program that will give your lawn all the nutrients it needs to
thrive and be healthy. Soil testing should be done every two years.
